The dots provide a system organization if these boxes were to be of different sizes and stacked. The front die-cut holes would provide a pattern that would be specific with each box set. They are reminiscent of old computer punch cards. For my drink choice that would work with my design, I chose to utilize the ubiquitous fruit drink that was very saturated and had contrast.
